Phra Lak Ha Huk, commonly referred to by devotees as the “6-Color Buddha,” is a supreme Mahayana amulet created by Phra Khanachan Chin Thammasamathiwat, or “Than Chao Khun Pho Chaeng,” the former primate of the Chinese Buddhist Order in Thailand and the founder of Wat Bhoman Khunaram. This sacred object was born from the compassion of Than Chao Khun Pho Chaeng, who wished to create a spiritual anchor and an amulet for “Gae Chong” (mitigating astrological clashes) and “balancing elemental forces” for his disciples and the general public. The choice of clear plastic or resin as the material was not to cut costs, but a deliberate intention to create a sacred object that is lightweight, easy to carry, weather-resistant, shatterproof upon impact, and capable of being produced in sufficient quantities to meet the massive demand of devotees flocking to the temple for blessings. The design is a teardrop shape containing six small Buddha figures seated back-to-back in a circle, resembling the Dharma wheel.
Materials and the Principle of Elements in Each Color Although it does not consist of sacred holy powders or mystical alchemical metals, the sanctity of Phra Lak Ha Huk lies in its “Dharma concepts and the science of the elements.” The term “Lak Ha” (Liu He – 六合) in Chinese means the “Six Harmonies” or the balance of the six directions (Left, Right, Front, Back, Up, Down). The six colors of the Buddha figures were not chosen randomly; they replicate the “Five Elements” (Wu Xing) according to ancient Chinese science, integrated with a sixth element to achieve maximum perfection in adjusting one’s destiny. The elements are as follows:
-
Red (Fire Element): Represents brightness, energy, and enthusiasm. It helps burn away evil, eliminates spiritual coldness, and promotes fame and honor.
-
Yellow (Earth Element): Represents steadiness, stability, and abundance. It is the center of all things, helping to support financial status, career, and stability in life.
-
White (Metal/Gold Element): Represents purity, justice, and strength. It helps reflect negative energy, wards off inauspicious entities, and promotes wisdom in decision-making.
-
Black or Dark Blue (Water Element): Represents fluidity, adaptability, and tranquility. It helps extinguish hot tempers, quells sorrow, and promotes deep intellect and smooth business negotiations.
-
Green (Wood Element): Represents growth, blooming, robust health, and longevity. It helps revitalize life force and heal illnesses.
-
Light Blue or Clear (Space/Wind Element): Represents the void, the sky, or the space that embraces the other five elements together. It signifies harmony and the smooth movement of Prana (Chi) energy, ensuring all elements work together in balance without conflict.
Rituals The mental empowerment and consecration of Phra Lak Ha Huk were performed with intense sacredness strictly following Mahayana and Mantrayana (Vajrayana) Buddhist traditions. Than Chao Khun Pho Chaeng conducted the eye-opening ceremony and recited sacred “Dharani” mantras, which are high-level incantations used to invoke the divine virtues of Buddhas of the past, Bodhisattvas, and celestial deities of all heavenly realms to descend and bestow blessings. The rituals of the Chinese sect heavily emphasize the circulation of Prana energy and highly advanced meditative concentration to instill the power of loving-kindness, the dispelling of disasters, and the organization of energies (elements) within the worshipper to align harmoniously with nature and the universe.
Experiences The most widely spoken experiences from those who carry the Phra Lak Ha Huk involve “fixing clash years (Pi Chong)” and “turning one’s destiny around.” Many individuals experiencing a string of bad luck, stalled careers, or unexplained chronic illnesses (which, according to Chinese science, is believed to be caused by an imbalance of elements in the body and destiny) found that upon carrying the Phra Lak Ha Huk, the power of the six elements helped restore balance and replenish missing elements. This turned bad situations into good ones, alleviated illnesses, and made stagnant businesses flow smoothly again. Furthermore, it possesses outstanding properties regarding “Klaew Klaad” (evading danger) from accidents and during travels, as well as the remarkable ability to protect against black magic, curses, and unseen negative energies. This makes the Phra Lak Ha Huk highly treasured among Thai-Chinese individuals.
