History and Creation Details of Tao Maha Lap (Great Fortune Turtle), Luang Pho Sap, Wat Taluk, Gold-Plated Lead Material, B.E. 2521
The Tao Maha Lap (also known as Phaya Tao Ruean or Turtle Calling Wealth) created by Luang Pho Sap Thammasophono (Phra Kru Sap Thammasophono) of Wat Inthararam (commonly called Wat Taluk), Tambon Taluk, Amphoe Sapphaya, Chai Nat Province, is a small turtle-shaped talisman that enjoys tremendous popularity in the Chai Nat lineage and across Thailand. It is especially favored by traders and devotees seeking great fortune, continuous inflow of money, longevity, and protection from danger.
Background of Luang Pho Sap, Wat Taluk Luang Pho Sap (lay name: Sap Kham Suk) was born on a Thursday, 5 May in the Year of the Ox (approximately B.E. 244x). He was one of the most famous guru monks of Chai Nat Province. He was the chief disciple of Luang Pho Am, Wat Taluk (a master renowned for fortune and metta) and a contemporary close friend of Luang Pho Koon Chutinatharo, Wat Khosit Aram (also from Chai Nat). Luang Pho Sap specialized in wealth attraction, great charm (metta mahaniyom), business success, and wealth-calling talismans—particularly the Nok Kum (protective bird) and Tao Ruean (turtle house) forms, which are among his most iconic and sought-after creations. His blessings are renowned for drawing wealth, boosting business prosperity and growth, evasion of danger, longevity (like the turtle), and protection from disasters.
Background of Creation – Tao Maha Lap, B.E. 2521 Created in B.E. 2521 (some documents and experts date the main period to 2520–2521 due to the production and distribution timeline), primarily to distribute to disciples and devotees. It is one of his signature talismans (paired with the Nok Kum bird). The main material is lead (takaew) with gold plating (gold-plated), which is the most popular and desirable version in this batch because of its beauty, durability, and luxurious appearance when the original gold plating remains intact. Some pieces were plated with silver or nickel, but the gold-plated lead is by far the most sought-after.
Gold-Plated Lead Material (Main Content of This Batch)
- Made by casting pure lead into a tiny turtle-house shape (approximately 1–2 cm in size), then electroplated with gold (sometimes referred to as brass-gold or copper-gold plating).
- After more than 50 years, authentic pieces develop a beautiful natural patina (fire skin) in deep red or jet black tones. If the original gold plating is still present, the piece looks exceptionally beautiful. Pristine-condition examples are very rare due to the age and limited production.
- Sacred substances: Primarily pure lead mixed with holy ingredients (some sources mention embedded sacred powders or yantra inside). The power is intensely strong thanks to Luang Pho Sap’s personal consecration.
Appearance and Mold
- Shape: Classic turtle-house form (small turtle with raised head and clearly defined shell); some have a base or minor details.
- Size: Extremely small (miniature turtle), ideal for wearing as a pendant or placing on an altar.
- Material: Gold-plated lead is the signature content of the 2521 batch.
Consecration and Quantity Luang Pho Sap personally performed the consecration (sometimes with assistance from disciples or close guru monks). No exact production numbers are recorded, but output was limited and mainly for free distribution to devotees—not mass commercial production. As a result, pieces are rare today, especially those with complete original gold plating. This batch is considered one of the finest treasures of Chai Nat Province and is hugely popular among collectors of wealth-attraction and business talismans, thanks to its proven efficacy in calling wealth, great charm, business success, and longevity.
