History and Creation Details of the Pen-Sized Ritual Knife (Mitmor) by Luang Phor Bunmi, Wat Khao Samo Khon (1967 – 1982)
History of Creation Luang Phor Bunmi Issaro of Wat Khao Samo Khon, Tha Wung District, Lopburi Province, was a supreme monk master who directly inherited the mystical knowledge of creating ritual knives (Mitmor) from the Khao Tao Than and Khao Samo Khon lineages from his master, Luang Phor Kong. Luang Phor Bunmi’s ritual knives are highly praised for their formidable power and consistently rank among the most popular in the Thai amulet community. Specifically, during the years 2510 to 2525 BE (1967 – 1982 AD), an era when bandits and dark magic arts were still prevalent across the country. The creation of the “Pen-Sized Mitmor,” or the concealed miniature ritual knife, occurred to meet the specific demands of his disciples who were civil servants, teachers, and merchants. They wanted to carry a ritual knife for personal protection but did not want it to be conspicuous, intimidating, or cumbersome to carry. Therefore, the hilt and scabbard were ingeniously designed to look exactly like a regular pen casing from the outside (as seen in the image with the blue resin cap and metal barrel), allowing it to be clipped perfectly into a shirt pocket.
Deep Dive into the Materials The forging of Luang Phor Bunmi’s blade is a perfect blend of Buddhist art and occult science. The blades were forged by traditional craftsmen using various types of “mystical metals.” These included iron from pagoda spires, Sangkawanara nails (ancient lead-tin nails used to secure Buddhist chapels and viharas), nails from ghost coffins, Namphi iron, and Lek Lai ores. These metals were melted, repeatedly folded, and forged together to achieve immense durability. The blade itself is typically stamped with unique sacred Yantra characters, such as the Narai Tawat Pa Yantra, the Five Buddhas Yantra, or the Nak Kiao Yantra. The most crucial characteristic, considered the heart of Luang Phor Bunmi’s Mitmor, is located at the tang of the knife (the junction between the blade and the hilt). This area contains packed “sacred materials,” which include Phutthakhun powder, Itthije powder, Luang Phor Bunmi’s own hair, a tiny hand-inscribed Takrut, and is tightly sealed with sacred lac (Krang) or Victory Candle wax (Tian Chai) to act as the core of Buddha’s grace and to ward off inauspicious entities.
Rituals and Consecration The consecration ceremonies performed by Luang Phor Bunmi were extraordinarily intense. He never rushed the process; instead, he spent his time single-handedly empowering the knives through deep meditation inside his personal quarters throughout the entire three-month Buddhist Lent retreat. He utilized his Vipassana meditation skills to walk the elements, establish the elements, and support the elements. He empowered them by chanting the incantations of the Four Divine Weapons (the weapon of Indra, the weapon of Yama, the weapon of Thao Vessuwan, and the weapon of the Alavaka Demon), the incantation of the Sixteen Buddhas, and specific incantations for exorcising ghosts and demons. He would invoke the supreme virtues of the Buddha, Dhamma, Sangha, as well as heavenly deities and the lineage masters of Khao Samo Khon, to bestow their blessings. This ensured that every single ritual knife possessed absolute, decisive power, fully capable of destroying all types of curses, black magic, and occult spells.
Experiences of the Worshippers The miraculous experiences of those who carry Luang Phor Bunmi’s pen-sized Mitmor are abundant and endlessly recounted among his disciples and amulet collectors. The most prominent accounts involve protection against and curing of black magic, curses, and ill winds. If someone is possessed by an evil spirit, simply touching the master’s ritual knife to their forehead, or stirring holy water with the blade for the afflicted person to drink, will instantly cure the possession or dispel the dark spell. Furthermore, it possesses outstanding attributes for Maha Ud (gun-stopping power), Klaew Klaad (evasion and safety from fatal accidents), and Kong Grapan Chatri (invulnerability against piercing and slashing weapons). It can also be used to draw a protective boundary on the ground to ward off wild beasts and venomous serpents when traveling into deep forests. It is universally regarded as the ultimate personal talisman—easy to carry, timeless, and filled with all-encompassing protective powers.
