Phra Somdej Carved Wood, Luang Phor Guay Chutintharo, Wat Kositaram, Year 1978 (B.E. 2521)
History of Creation The Phra Somdej carved wood of Luang Phor Guay, created in 1978 (B.E. 2521), was made for a very special occasion: the ceremonial burying of the boundary stones (Phuk Phatthasima) at Wat Kositaram. This is widely considered to be his grandest blessing ceremony. The creation of these wooden Somdej amulets did not rely on factory mass-pressing. Instead, it was an art of hand-carving each piece individually by local artisans and close disciples, making every single amulet entirely unique. The production quantity was very small compared to the sacred powder amulets, making this edition highly cherished and extremely rare among his devotees.
Materials Although simply referred to as carved wood amulets, the materials used are considered supreme and highly elusive. Luang Phor Guay specifically chose “Mai Thon Sit,” which are sacred woods believed to possess natural supernatural powers. These included Mai Phaya Ngiw Dam (Black Ngiw Wood), which is outstanding for invulnerability and protection against black magic; Mai Pho Nipan (a branch of a Bodhi tree that naturally broke and fell pointing towards the east), which symbolizes tranquility and wisdom; and Mai Phut Son. After the amulets were completely carved, they were often soaked in Luang Phor Guay’s consecrated sesame oil or holy oil to increase their magical efficacy and preserve the wood. Some pieces might also have sacred powders (such as Itthije or Pattamung powder) embedded at the bottom or the back of the amulet.
Rituals Luang Phor Guay performed intense solo consecration (Pluk Sek) inside his living quarters for an extended period before bringing them into the grand blessing ceremony during the 1978 Phuk Phatthasima event. He invoked the elemental powers, blessed them with the Jindamanee mantra to attract wealth, and indispensably infused them with his signature “Montra Phra Kaan” (The Spell of Phra Kaan). This specific spell has the power of reflection; if anyone harbors ill will, uses black magic, or attempts to harm the worshiper of his amulet, those evil intentions will reflect back to the perpetrator. In this 1978 ceremony, Luang Phor Guay devoted all his physical and spiritual energy, along with every magical art he had mastered, to fully empower these sacred objects.
Experiences Those who wear the 1978 wooden Phra Somdej have encountered endless miraculous experiences, particularly regarding Klaew Klaad (evading danger) and Kong Krapan Chatri (invulnerability). There are stories from disciples who were involved in severe car rollovers yet survived completely unscathed. Furthermore, there are outstanding experiences regarding Metta Mahaniyom (great charm and popularity) and prosperity in careers. Many firmly believe that the combination of the naturally sacred wood and Luang Phor Guay’s magical incantations helps uplift one’s destiny, preventing downfalls, and turning bad situations into good ones. Most importantly, it is highly effective at providing protection against unseen dangers.
