History and Creation Details: Phra Somdej Buddhagaya (Visiting India Edition), Wat Thung Seri (1976 / B.E. 2519)
Phra Somdej Buddhagaya (Visiting India Edition) was created in 1976 (B.E. 2519) by Luang Pho Phisit Suthammo, the abbot of Wat Thung Seri (Hua Mak, Bangkok), on the occasion of his pilgrimage to the sacred Buddhist sites in India. The primary objective was to offer them as sacred commemorative amulets to donors and to utilize the funds raised for the renovation of monastic residences and facilities at Wat Thung Seri.
Sacred Materials (Muan Sarn)
The distinction of this amulet lies in its unique and spiritually powerful composition, which includes:
-
Sacred soil from all 4 Holy Sites of Buddhism in India, particularly soil taken from beneath the Mahabodhi Tree at the Mahabodhi Temple in Bodh Gaya (the site of the Buddha’s Enlightenment).
-
108 types of Holy Powders (Phong Phuttha Khun) donated by renowned master monks across Thailand.
-
Powders from ancient pagoda amulets and various gathered sacred powders.
-
108 types of auspicious herbs (Wan) and sacred flower pollens.
Two-Stage Consecration Ceremony (India – Thailand)
This edition underwent a grand and complete consecration process divided into two major rituals across two countries:
Stage 1: Initial Consecration at the Holy Land (India)
The first ritual was held directly beneath the Mahabodhi Tree at the Mahabodhi Temple complex in Bodh Gaya, Bihar, India—the sacred land of Enlightenment. Luang Pho Phisit brought the sacred materials and pressed amulets to conduct chanting, merit-making, and prayer rituals to invoke the supreme blessings of the Buddha directly at the source.
Stage 2: Grand Consecration Ceremony at Wat Thung Seri (Bangkok)
Upon returning to Thailand, a grand consecration ceremony (Maha Phuttha Phisek) was organized at the main chapel (Ubosot) of Wat Thung Seri, Hua Mak. Revered contemporary master monks endowed with deep spiritual power were invited to perform chantings and meditation empowerments, including:
-
Luang Pu Toh (Wat Pradou Chimphli, Bangkok)
-
Luang Pho Kuay (Wat Khositaram, Chai Nat)
-
Luang Pho Phae (Wat Pikul Thong, Sing Buri)
-
Luang Pho Song (Wat Chao Fa Sala Loi, Chumphon)
-
Luang Pho Nueang (Wat Chulamanee, Samut Songkhram)
-
Luang Pho Sut (Wat Kalong, Samut Sakhon)
-
Luang Pho Thongyoo (Wat Mai Nong Pha-ong, Samut Sakhon)
-
Ajarn Nam Kaeo-chann (Wat Don Sala, Phatthalung)
- Ajarn Chum Chikiri (Khao or school)
