History of the Creation of Luang Phor Koon Image (Back: Seated Buddha with Closed Eyes), Distributed at Wat Phan On, Chiang Mai, B.E. 2523

  • Main monk: Phra Thep Witthayakom (Luang Phor Koon Parisuttho) Abbot of Wat Ban Rai, Non Daeng District, Nakhon Ratchasima Province (at that time still holding the title Phra Kru)
  • Year of creation: B.E. 2523 (1980) (Distributed during the ordination ceremony / temple event at Wat Phan On, Mueang District, Chiang Mai)
  • Popular names in the amulet community:
    • Luang Phor Koon closed-eyes back, Wat Phan On 2523
    • Luang Phor Koon closed-eyes amulet, Chiang Mai edition 2523
    • Back closed-eyes 2523 Chiang Mai
  • Purpose of creation:
    • Created and distributed during the grand ordination ceremony (ngan ok wat) at Wat Phan On in 2523
    • To bring auspiciousness, blessings and protection to devotees
    • To enhance metta mahaniyom (great loving-kindness & likability), maha sen (great charm), invulnerability (kongkaphan), and evasion of danger (klaewklad)
    • Used as giveaway amulets during the major temple ceremony at Wat Phan On, which was an important temple in Chiang Mai at that time
  • Appearance of the amulet:
    • Material: Sacred powder mixture including old amulet powder, holy herbs, incense powder, and various sacred substances of Luang Phor Koon (typically brownish-yellow color, rough and gritty texture)
    • Front side: Classic closed-eyes Buddha image (Luang Phor Koon seated in meditation, eyes closed, right hand resting on right knee, left hand on left knee)
    • Back side: Seated closed-eyes portrait of Luang Phor Koon himself (front-facing view, emphasizing the face and facial features clearly)
    • Edge / border: Surrounded by Thai and Pali script (mostly protective mantras and yantra of Luang Phor Koon)
    • Size: Approximately 3.5–3.8 cm (medium to large size compared to smaller common amulets)
  • Notable points mentioned by devotees and collectors:
    • Considered one of the earlier and most distinctive “closed-eyes back” designs personally made by Luang Phor Koon
    • Highly regarded for strong powers in metta mahaniyom, charm, protection from danger, and invulnerability
    • Unique because it was created and distributed outside the Isan region (in the North – Chiang Mai), making it rarer and more special than many Korat-made batches
    • Powder is very hard, durable, and rarely breaks or crumbles
  • Additional notes:
    • This batch was produced in relatively limited quantity compared to later mass-produced series of Luang Phor Koon
    • Popular among northern Thai collectors and early-generation Luang Phor Koon enthusiasts
    • Variations in powder mixture exist (some pieces show more incense powder, some more herbal content), but the back closed-eyes design remains consistent across all pieces

The information above is compiled from records and accounts commonly found in the Thai amulet community (no official temple document from Wat Phan On provides every detail in an authorized manner).
