History and Creation Details of Phra Pidta Hua Jarot, Luang Pu Thong, Wat Ratchayotha, Clay Material, B.E. 2460-2470

Phra Pidta Hua Jarot (or Phra Pidta with rocket-head mold) in clay material is an early sacred amulet from Luang Pu Thong Ayana (Phra Ayana), the first abbot of Wat Ratchayotha (also known as Wat Lat Bua Khao), Lat Krabang Sub-district, Saphan Sung District, Bangkok.

Luang Pu Thong was born in B.E. 2363 (late reign of King Rama II), son of Mr. Huad Sae Lim (Hokkien Chinese) and a Mon mother. He was ordained in B.E. 2384 at Wat Ngoen Bang Phrom (Taling Chan), with Chao Khun Winai Kittichari Thera (Phu) as preceptor. He practiced thudong (wandering asceticism) and came to reside at Wat Ratchayotha during King Rama IV’s reign (the temple was built by Phraya Ratchayotha and Phraya Suren Ratchasena around B.E. 2415). He lived to 117 years old and passed away in B.E. 2480 (some sources specify 8 April B.E. 2480 as his death anniversary). He was an ancient guru monk with powerful magic; even Muslims respected him. He was a fellow disciple with Somdet Phra Phutthacharn (To Promrangsi) through Luang Pu Saeng of Wat Mani Chon Khan, Lopburi.
