History and Creation of Small Phra Kring, Luang Phor Sothon, Year 2508

Brief History of Phra Kring Luang Phor Sothon Phra Kring Luang Phor Sothon is an amulet depicting Phra Phuttha Sothon (Luang Phor Sothon), the sacred Buddha image and provincial guardian of Chachoengsao Province, enshrined at Wat Sothon Wararam Worawihan (Wat Luang Phor Sothon), Chachoengsao Province. The first Phra Kring batch from the temple was created in B.E. 2500 (the opening batch or first edition), made of gold alloy or brass. Later, in B.E. 2508, the second batch was produced as a continuation of the first, supervised and consecrated by Phra Rajabuddhi Rangsri (Luang Pu Jiam). The creation and consecration ceremony was held on a grand scale according to temple tradition. The main material was brass (some pieces blackened). Several molds were stamped, classified mainly by facial features (not size) into three main types: Soraphong face (or small face), thick face, and others.

Creation Details of Small Phra Kring, Year 2508 The small Phra Kring (also called small mold, small stamped mold, raised letter mold, some with built-in loop) is one of the sub-molds from the B.E. 2508 batch. This mold features a small face, sunken cheeks, pointed chin, four rows of frontal hair curls, sometimes called “Soraphong face” or elongated mold, sharp nose, and a clear ringing sound from the bell inside. The back clearly states the year 2508. Some molds have raised letters on the front and a built-in loop (for wearing as a pendant). Material is brass (some blackened or gold-plated). A large number were made for each mold (especially the back mold), resulting in several blocks with slight variations in minor details, but identifiable by matching back molds. This small mold is considered rarer than some larger molds and is less commonly found in the current market.

The main blessings are prominent in great charm (metta maha niyom), great wealth (maha lap), danger evasion (klaew klaad), invulnerability (kongkaphan chatri), enhancing charisma, luck, business prosperity, success, and protection from harm, according to the beliefs of disciples and devotees of Luang Phor Sothon. The small Phra Kring from B.E. 2508 is therefore a highly popular and famous edition in the Chachoengsao Phra Kring line, regarded as having very high spiritual potency following the temple’s grand consecration tradition.
