History and Creation Information of Phra Phra Phiphek (Head of Phiphek), Luang Phor Khruen, Wat Sangkho, Clay Material, Including Blessings and Approximate Creation Period
Brief Biography of Luang Phor Khruen Luang Phor Khruen Amaro (Phra Kru Khosit Thammasarn), birth name Khruen Sribuatong, born on January 17, B.E. 2442 (some sources say 2443) in Tambon Bang Yai, Amphoe Bang Pla Ma, Suphan Buri Province. Father named Fuk (village headman), mother named Phuk. He was first ordained around B.E. 2464, stayed 2 rains, disrobed to marry, but his wife and child died during childbirth, so he re-ordained in B.E. 2471 (age 29) at Wat Bang Yai and spent rains at Wat Sangkho Sitaram. He studied Vipassana meditation with Luang Phor Non Wat Khlong Madan (contemporary of Luang Phor Sod Wat Pak Nam) and fortune-telling/divination with Luang Phor Chat. He became abbot of Wat Sangkho Sitaram around B.E. 2475 onward, built the main hall, monks’ quarters, pavilion, and school. He possessed strong supernatural powers; Luang Phor Sod once praised him as “Luang Phor Khruen is like Moggallana reborn.” During consecration ceremonies, insects would swarm, so he had to perform inside a mosquito net. He passed away around B.E. 2505 (some sources mark the 61st anniversary of his passing in later years).
Creation Details of Phra Phiphek (Head), Clay Material The Phra Phiphek (or Head of Phra Ya Phiphek) by Luang Phor Khruen is a talisman in the form of the head of Phra Ya Phiphek from the Ramakien epic. Phra Ya Phiphek is the supreme guru of astrology, green-bodied, younger brother of Tosakanth, possessing highly accurate foresight and prediction ability. Made of baked clay mixed with sacred blessing powder (various sacred powders), hand-molded by Luang Phor himself, painted, and inscribed with yantra on the back. Some pieces are painted green according to the legend. He created various hermit heads or teacher heads, including the Phiphek form, starting roughly from B.E. 2480 onward (he began mass-producing amulets after becoming abbot). Approximate creation period for clay Phra Phiphek is B.E. 2480–2500 (mid to late period of his life). Quantity was not large; distributed to disciples or devotees. The main blessings are prominent in astrology and fortune-telling (highly accurate prediction), enhancing charisma in divination, great charm (metta maha niyom), success in career and undertakings, wealth and good fortune, business prosperity, danger evasion (klaew klaad), protection from harm, and if venerated properly, it is believed to bring miraculous wealth.
The clay Phra Phiphek by Luang Phor Khruen is therefore a rare talisman, highly regarded for its spiritual potency in the lines of astrology and great charm among disciples and devotees.
