Sacred Amulet: Than Pho Lee’s Pentagonal Bodhi-Chakra Clay Amulet (1957)
1. History and Background of the Bodhi-Chakra Amulet
-
25th Buddhist Century Celebration (1957): In 1957 (B.E. 2500), marking the mid-point of the Buddhist Era, Than Pho Lee organized a grand celebration at Wat Asokaram in Samut Prakan Province. Renowned Forest Tradition meditation masters from across Thailand were invited to chant and consecrate sacred amulets.
-
Intended Purpose: Created to preserve the Buddhist faith for 5,000 years and distributed to devotees attending the ceremony to serve as a spiritual anchor and an aid for meditation practice.
2. Creation Details and Sacred Materials (1957)
-
Artistic Elements:
-
Front Design: Depicts the Buddha seated in meditation posture within a pentagonal frame and jewel arch, featuring the “Bodhi Leaf and Chakra” symbol representing enlightenment and the spread of Dhamma.
-
Back Design: Stamped with sacred yantra diagrams, mostly featuring the Chulamanee Yantra or Than Pho Lee’s personal fate yantra.
-
Clay and Sacred Ingredients:
-
Sacred Clay Mix: Made from fired clay mixed with 108 types of flower pollens, holy powders, and sacred soil from the four holy Buddhist pilgrimage sites brought from India by Than Pho Lee.
-
Special Powders: Infused with Than Pho Lee’s hand-inscribed sacred powders, pollens, and crushed old powders from ancient temples.
-
Firing and Color Variations:
-
The firing process resulted in a wide variety of natural colors, ranging from terracotta orange/red, cream yellow, olive green, gray, to deep black (passed through fire).
3. Consecration Ceremony and Spiritual Blessings
-
Grand Forest Monk Consecration: Consecrated by top Forest Tradition meditation masters (Kammaṭṭhāna lineage) such as Luang Pu Fan Ajaro, Luang Pu Khao Analayo, Luang Pu Tue Ajaladhammo, and Than Pho Lee himself throughout the 25th Buddhist Century ceremony.
-
Spiritual Benefits: Provides comprehensive blessings including loving-kindness (Metta Maha Niyom), protection from danger, inner peace, and assistance in deepening meditation practice.

| Mold Sharpness |
Sharp pentagonal mold details; the arch lines, Bodhi leaves, and rear yantra lines remain crisp and well-defined. |
| Color Patina |
Natural hue variations resulting from traditional kiln firing; the clay feels semi-soft yet hardened without looking overly fresh or artificial. |
