History of Creation The Phra Somdej Luang Pu Phu Chanthakesaro, Ubosot Celebration Edition, of Wat Intharawihan, Bang Khun Phrom, Bangkok, was created in the year 2537 BE (1994 AD). The primary objective was to serve as a commemorative token for the celebration of the new Ubosot (ordination hall) of Wat Intharawihan. It is considered a retro creation of Luang Pu Phu’s standard molds to commemorate the contributions of Luang Pu Phu, the foremost disciple of Somdej Phra Buddhacarya (Toh Brahmaramsi). The temple designed it to be beautiful, classic, and retaining its original identity. The back is stamped with a rubber stamp depicting Luang Pu Phu and the temple’s name (which may fade over time on some pieces), and it comes in its original box clearly stating the mold and edition name.
Deep Dive into the Materials The materials used for its creation are considered extremely special because Wat Intharawihan is the origin lineage of Phra Somdej Bang Khun Phrom. The main materials consist of “old sacred Phutthakhun powder” handed down from the era of Somdej Phra Buddhacarya (Toh) and the old powder of Luang Pu Phu. This is mixed with broken fragments of old and new Phra Somdej Bang Khun Phrom amulets (from the 2500 BE and 2509 BE pagodas). In addition, there is shell lime powder, Itthije powder, Pattamang powder, 108 types of auspicious herbs, pollen from flowers offered to the Buddha, and holy water from Somdej Toh’s holy water well. These were ground, mixed, and pressed into molds, giving the amulet a soft, dense texture with sacred materials distributed throughout the piece.
Rituals and Consecration A grand Maha Putthaphisek consecration ceremony was held at the Ubosot of Wat Intharawihan. Sacred threads (Sai Sin) were connected from the statues of Somdej Phra Buddhacarya (Toh) and Luang Pu Phu down to the sacred objects. Renowned monk masters of that era in 2537 BE were invited in large numbers to sit in deep meditation and bless the amulets. These included Luang Phor Pae of Wat Pikulthong, Luang Phor Pern of Wat Bang Phra, Luang Phor Uttama of Wat Wang Wiwekaram, and many others. They collectively chanted Buddhist mantras and the Chinnabanchorn incantation to invoke the virtues of Somdej Toh and Luang Pu Phu to bestow their blessings.
