History and Creation of Phra Chaiwat, Chao Khun Sri (Prayat), Wat Suthat Thepwararam, Year 2506

Brief Biography of Chao Khun Sri (Prayat) Chao Khun Sri (Prayat), or Phra Sri Satchanyanathera (Prayat Panyatharo), birth name Prayat (originally Prani), born on March 6, B.E. 2464 in Sam Yan area, Bangkok. Father named Nui, mother named Chuen. He was ordained and studied magical knowledge at Wat Suthat Thepwararam. He was an important senior monk of Wat Suthat, continuing the tradition of creating Phra Kring and Phra Chaiwat according to the temple’s style. He was highly skilled in great charm (metta maha niyom), great authority (maha amnat), invulnerability (kongkaphan chatri), and protective talismans. He played a key role in overseeing and creating sacred objects following Somdet Phra Sangkharat (Pae) and Chao Khun Sri Son. He passed away sometime after B.E. 2500 (exact year may vary by source).

Creation Details of Phra Chaiwat, Year 2506 Phra Chaiwat by Chao Khun Sri (Prayat), Wat Suthat Thepwararam, B.E. 2506, was created during the period when Chao Khun Sri (Prayat) was in charge, but it is primarily linked to the temple’s major ceremony that year. The main consecration and casting ritual was led by Somdet Phra Phutthacharn Saengiam (Chao Khun Saengiam). The ceremony took place inside the main ordination hall of Wat Suthat Thepwararam from February 6–7–8, B.E. 2506, lasting 3 days and 3 nights, with many leading guru monks participating in the consecration.

The main material was metal alloy (nawa loha, brass, or gold alloy), mixed with old sacred materials such as old bell metal, old Phra Chaiwat mass from Somdet Phra Sangkharat (Pae), and bell metal from Chao Khun Sri Son, to inherit the ancient blessings according to Wat Suthat’s traditional recipe. The design follows the standard Phra Chaiwat form (standing or seated Buddha according to the style), with the year 2506 indicated on the back or yantra inscriptions. Although not a small quantity, they were widely distributed during the temple’s major merit-making event.

The main blessings are prominent in great charm (metta maha niyom), great authority (maha amnat), victory and success, invulnerability (kongkaphan chatri), danger evasion (klaew klaad), protection from harm, enhancing charisma, luck, business prosperity, and overall success, according to the beliefs of disciples and devotees of the Wat Suthat lineage. The Phra Chaiwat from B.E. 2506 is therefore an important edition that continues the tradition from earlier batches, regarded as having very high spiritual potency and popular among collectors of Phra Kring and Phra Chaiwat from Wat Suthat.
